As every country strives towards enormous economic growth, the people are being urged to work more hours by each passing generation.
This is evident from the fact that the millennial generation’s average workweeks have seen an increase of hours put in. According to studies, millennials in India are said to work for over 52 hours a week, as opposed to 44 hours by French millennials and 41 hours by Australian millennials. This has culminated in immense stress because of the work-life imbalance, which ultimately has started affecting their mental well-being; one of the reasons for an increase in the mental health complications amongst the professionals in the group.
Mental health issues are not exclusive to this age group and can show their signs from a much earlier age. Due to various reasons, teenagers worldwide have started experiencing some of the symptoms of depression, which has created massive pressure on the mental health infrastructure. The industry currently faces a shortage of mental health professionals & due to the Covid-19 pandemic affecting schools, social gatherings & taking out the element of human touch from our lives, taking care of each other has become more challenging.
We at avyansh understand this and are committed to helping people in any age group with their mental health issues. Our organization believes in networking with the local community to generate results. The organization operates with and through committed grassroots-level volunteers who have developed a rapport in their communities. The operational strategy includes canvassing the city & visiting patients suffering from issues & if, they are eligible, enrolling them into our school - Happy Home, where we help them become self-reliant through training, education, and technical aid.
Our cosy & comfortable Happy Home acts as a nest for our residents where they get treated like family members & experience the joys of living through group activities. We try to make them laugh as much as possible during these exercises so that they carry this feeling throughout the day. We work to develop the physical and mental health of the residents through daily sessions at the Happy Home and help improve their cognitive abilities to realise our end goal of integrating them back into society.
Due to infrastructural deficiencies, nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help from a professional either due to gaps in the supply of mental health doctors or the lack of awareness about available support, service & assistance. Stigma, discrimination, and neglect are prevalent issues that hinder care and treatment from reaching people with mental disorders, says the World Health Organization (WHO's Report, 2001).
A family-like atmosphere maintained at the happy home acts as a therapeutic tool and it provides the residents the confidence to speak their thoughts without any hindrance. We have achieved this by caring souls that are ready to trade their time for a smile on the faces of our residents.
Under the guidance of our president Mrs. Manjula Thakur, we undertake regular checkups and implement a mix of therapies to treat numerous complexities that we see in our residents. Since complications may arise for different reasons, it’s best to treat them via separate approaches. These approaches, sometimes called therapies, have helped to improve the condition in many cases. Through partnerships with valuable stakeholders & medical practitioners in our community, we have been trying to achieve our goals through a mix of these therapies.
" ABA therapy is a specific form of behaviour modification. It is defined as "the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory." ABA is used to improve socially significant behaviours to a meaningful degree."
" OT is both an art and science wherein therapists working for Occupational Therapy Centers are responsible for inclining the afflicted individual towards normalcy in human upkeep tasks to undergo rehabilitation and foster independent action."
" Special Education aims to improve the academic, social, and self-help skills of individuals with special needs. It addresses significant cognitive or physical deficits through a multi-sensory program drawn out to maximize the child's potential to the fullest. A child with differentiated or special needs isn't always able to adjust in a formal school setting due to the fallacies and backlogs he/she suffers in their physical, social or cognitive setup and needs special education assistance. Thus, they have to be trained and taught using facilities that foster their learning abilities and bridge the gap between a special school and a formalized school."
" Sensory integration is a process by which all the five senses (vision, hearing, touch, taste & smell) work together to make sense of the world. Through this process, we receive information. The central nervous system directs the information to the appropriate parts of the brain. This information is "integrated" or synthesized to respond to the stimuli adaptively. It provides an essential foundation for more complex learning and behaviour."
" Psychological Intervention is an umbrella term for services provided, such as testing and assessment, behaviour therapy, counselling. These interventions help bring about a change in people's attitudes, behaviours, and beliefs. Psychological interventions help modify behaviour, emotional state, and feelings while also promoting healthy coping strategies."
" Art-based therapy is an expressive therapy that uses creative processes to improve a person's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The goal is to express oneself through the various mediums of art forms and, in the process, gaining a better understanding of oneself. This therapy can help to develop and manage behaviours and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem. It involves music, yoga, and dance therapy."
" Group therapy is a therapy model in which two or more patients meet with one or more therapists to collectively discuss & describe their problems."
" Physiotherapy is a treatment method that focuses on the science of movement. It helps people restore, maintain, and maximize their physical strength, function, motion, and overall well-being by addressing the underlying physical issues."
" Play therapy is a form of therapy used primarily for children. That's because sometimes children may not process their own emotions or articulate problems to parents or other adults. While it may look like regular playtime, play therapy can be much more than that. A trained therapist can use playtime to observe and gain insights into a child's problems. The therapist can then help the child explore emotions and deal with unresolved trauma. Through play, children can learn new coping mechanisms and how to redirect inappropriate behaviours."
